The importance of giving confidence to a new generation of entrepreneurs

According to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), youth  (18–30 years old) face several significant obstacles that are barriers to business creation. Indeed, over the 2014–2018 period, youth in the European Union were less likely than adults to believe they have the knowledge and abilities necessary for entrepreneurship (38.7 percent vs. 44.5 percent for adults). Furthermore, within this time period, 44.5 percent of young people in the EU believed that fear of failure was a barrier to entrepreneurship. This percentage is higher than the percentage for OECD nations where the percentage is equal to 39.2%.

Among the young people in the EU, the most confident in their entrepreneurial abilities are in Romania (50.1%) and Latvia (50.6%), whereas the percentage is less in other countries such Denmark (25.6%). These differences are mainly explained by the social attitude towards entrepreneurship within each country, as well as how deeply entrepreneurship education has been ingrained in the official educational system.

That is why it is important to give youth the confidence to start a new business by giving them the necessary skills to start a business and by creating an entrepreneurial spirit within themselves. That is the ambition of the RE.MIND project: we have the ambition to support teachers and educators in teaching entrepreneurship to students by providing them business training that will help them to create a mindset with many benefits for students.
