EntreComp, a tool for the European Youth

Developing the entrepreneurial capacity of EU young citizens and organizations is one of the main objectives of the Union and its Member States, and part of the eight Key Competencies for Lifelong Learning. Therefore, the Joint Research Center, in partnership with DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, created EntreComp: The Entrepreneurship Competence Framework. It includes a developed set of skills, attitudes, and values that make an entrepreneurial mindset, and offers guidance to youth workers and educators to explain them the best ways to implement high-quality learning opportunities for young people.

EntreComp is an essential tool in the field of youth work and Education for Democratic Citizenship to improve pedagogical approaches, and change from the classical entrepreneurial learning. It is also relevant to reinforce active engagement of young people, and support the proactivity of learners.

Furthermore, the Entrepreneurship Competence Framework identifies entrepreneurship as an important process of value creation for others, requiring a certain level of civic engagement. The value created can be social, cultural, or financial. It is in opposition with the conventional view of entrepreneurship based only on economic gain. EntreComp is an inspiration for young generations in social economy.
